Do it for Charity: Macy’s 7th Annual ‘Shop for a Cause’

What’s better than going shopping for clothing? Getting a discount for giving away old clothes or donating to charity at the same time. Check out the details of Macy’s 7th annual Shop for a Cause Event going on nationwide. Written by Juliet Rocco

On the road again: This past weekend, I was driving back up to Rochester from New Jersey and listening to the radio. Usually I listen to my iPod for the 5 hour drive, but it’s been on the fritz because I dropped it on the concrete while I was running once. I had to deal with searching for radio stations the whole way up. First World problems, I know.

Donate, maybe? I was happy to find a station with a commercial-free hour so I just stuck with that (even if Call Me Maybe played 3 times). While I was listening, I heard one of the radio hosts talking about ‘Shop for a Cause’, the charitable event that Macy’s was hosting.

Donate your old clothes, and get a 25% off anything in the store coupon.”

Here’s how it works:

“On Saturday, August 25, 2012, Macy’s will host its 7th annual Shop For A Cause benefiting charities nationwide. Since 2006, Shop For A Cause has raised more than $42 million for charities across the country. This is your opportunity to be part of the excitement.”

If you buy a $5 ticket online or in-store, Macy’s will donate 100% of the proceeds to the Wounded Warrior Project, Feeding America and Family Violence Prevention Fund.

The Shop For A Cause offer is an all-day shopping pass for 25% off regular, sale and clearance merchandise throughout the store as well as 10% off furniture, mattresses and area rugs. The pass is valid in all Macy’s stores on Saturday, August 25, 2012.

This year’s charities are selected by state and store location. Find out what charities benefit by visiting here. To find out about getting 25% off online or in-store, click this link.
